Abstract

Moral emotions constitute a crucial component of moral development in children and adolescents, as they play a significant role in guiding moral and social behavior. This study aims to systematically examine the factors that shape moral emotions in children and adolescents based on relevant empirical research findings. The method employed was a systematic literature review, analyzing a selection of peer-reviewed journals that address the development of moral emotions in children and adolescents. The results indicate that the formation of moral emotions is influenced by multiple factors, including age-related development and cognitive maturity, empathy, emotion regulation, justice sensitivity, personality characteristics, as well as social and educational environmental contexts. In addition to these general factors, several studies also identify specific factors that account for individual differences in moral emotion development. The conclusions of this review emphasize that moral emotions develop through a multidimensional process involving dynamic interactions between internal and external factors of the individual.
